Optimal image quality for camera-based driver assistance systems

Driver assistance systems are omnipresent in today’s vehicle technology, and they will play an even more important role in the future.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, known as ADAS, increase driving safety with features like Emergency Brake Assist, Surround View, Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Detection. They also improve driving comfort with Parking Assist and Traffic Sign Assist.

In particular, the goal of improving safety challenges automotive manufacturers and their suppliers to ensure the quality and longevity of these complex systems. After all, they need to work perfectly for years, under extreme conditions like large temperature differences, vibrations, and constantly changing lighting conditions. In addition, as the number of highly integrated camera systems grows, manufacturers are under increased pressure to switch from their former small-scale production to volume production – with corresponding testing technology. That in turn sets higher standards for the camera systems’ production and measurement technology.
